Roger Anunsen

Brain Health Consultant & Co-Inventor of SAMM™

Roger Anunsen brings decades of applied brain science to PHOTAVIA as our Brain Health Consultant and co-inventor of SAMM™ (Shared Autobiographical Memory Mining) — the proprietary methodology behind every PHOTAVIA experience. Based in Oregon, Roger has spent his career translating complex neuroscience into practical, human tools for building cognitive resilience, connection, and wellbeing.

A sought-after speaker and educator, Roger delivered the TEDx talk "The Power of a Smidgen: Applied Brain Science" and has appeared on more than 200 podcasts and media programs, where he's known for making brain science come alive in real time rather than simply reciting research. He is co-author of The Aging Mind and Cognitive Activity Design, taught gerontology at the college level for over a decade, and leads MINDRAMP Consulting, where he continues developing cognitive wellness tools — including Nicebreakers™, his approach to sparking authentic connection through structured conversation.

At PHOTAVIA, Roger's work is foundational: SAMM is the engine behind our ability to turn a single image or memory into a meaningful, personalized conversation — what we call Reminiscence with Relevance™. His guidance shapes everything from our content methodology to our research strategy, including PHOTAVIA's current work toward an NIH/NIA STTR grant exploring the science behind what we do every day.

BrightLife Innovations

Partner Spotlight

Founded in 2011 by Josh Silldorff, BrightLife Innovations set out to solve a problem hiding in plain sight: video calling shouldn't be hard, especially for the people who'd benefit from it most. The result was EasyConnect HD, a simplified video chat platform built specifically for older adults — designed to sidestep the confusing menus and multi-step logins that made everyday apps like Skype and FaceTime a barrier rather than a bridge to family and friends.

That focus on removing friction for seniors soon extended into telehealth. Josh spearheaded telehealth initiatives connecting healthcare systems directly with the skilled nursing facilities they serve, beginning with a healthcare system in New York — work that helped close a real gap in care coordination for residents. He went on to serve as an Innovation Consultant for organizations like GreatLife Communities, helping replace paper-heavy administrative systems with streamlined digital communication that frees up staff time for what matters most: residents.

Today, Josh's focus has evolved again — helping senior communities build trust with families and position themselves as a clear, credible choice for prospective families evaluating quality care. At PHOTAVIA, we share that same belief: that technology for older adults, and the families who love them, should build confidence rather than add friction. Josh's years of hands-on experience make him a natural partner and advocate in our mission to bring meaningful, easy-to-use engagement into communities across the country.

ASOA

American Society on Aging

Mission: The American Society on Aging unites, empowers and champions everyone striving to improve aging.

Since 1954, ASA has developed and led the largest, most diverse community of professionals working in aging in America. As a result, ASA has become the go-to source to cultivate leadership, advance knowledge and strengthen the skills of our members and others who work with and on behalf of older adults.

As we unite, empower and champion our community, we have the unique responsibility to be a strong voice and thought leader on critical systemic issues that influence how we age. As America struggles with how best to respond to the need for greater inclusivity, anti-ageism and equity, ASA sees its responsibility as a leader to drive the discourse and advocate for the change necessary to address these issues in aging.
